Aquasphere Frac Water Recycling Case

Recently a major US Oil & Gas producer (operator) came to GPS with a request; design, build and supply a fully automated pumping system to be utilized in their “In-field recycling system”. This in-field recycling system consists of a large capacity central water holding/treatment facility connected via a pipeline network to well completion sites and corresponding surface production facilities. Prior to this request the company was utilizing a host of manually operated, fixed rate pumps that did not enable them to efficiently operate the “in-field recycling system”.

In a short period of time engineers for GPS designed and supplied a fully automated, variable speed (variable rate/pressure) pumping system designed to be operated with minimal human interface to be located at the central water treatment/holding facility. This new GPS “fit for purpose” product the “Aquasphere” was designed to enable facility technicians to have a pumping system that provided to them variable water shipping rates to match rate requests from the fracturing crews at the wellsites. In addition to the Aquasphere’s water rate management, the hardware & software within the system was built with a host of redundant safety control and alarm systems all designed to provide the operator with a maximum level of system integrity.

Today the operator is expanding their “in-field recycling” facility as they expand their drilling and completion operations in the region. They are purchasing and installing more “Aquasphere” systems in this continual expansion. Cost savings in recycling their completion water to date is measured in the millions of dollars.
